Sulongghu means “Rainbow” in the Tu ethnic language. The Tu people reside in areas like Huzhu, Datong, and Minhe in Qinghai Province, located in the eastern monsoon region of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. This is the westernmost reach of the southeast monsoon from the Pacific Ocean. With frequent showers in the summer, rainbows often appear afterward, sometimes multiple times a day, hence the Tu people are also known as the “Rainbow Tribe.”
